Network of Scientific Training
I’ve been listening to an audiobook about the early days of cancer research, and would keep hearing familiar names; this would include well-known eminent names in science (Varmus, Weinberg, Baltimore, etc), but also some people I had some faint associations with (including my PhD adviser’s own PhD adviser, Naomi Rosenberg). I figured the adviser – trainee relationships were kind of interesting to look at, so I started playing with making network visualizations. These are some names that are somewhat familiar to me (some from recent days, others from my virology PhD past); the list is still pretty small, but it’s surprisingly hard to validate some of these relationships as the information isn’t readily accessible online.
As you can see, one of the many ways David Baltimore left a mark in the world / academia. I’ll keep adding names to this list as I figure them out.
