DCFC Observations

Anna and I are both big Death Cab for Cutie fans (and Emo songwriter genius Ben Gibbard), and know their catalogue enough to realize some patterns. These include.

A. (Above) Realizing just how many songs on Kintsugi are Ben Gibbard being haunted / deliciously bitter about his former marriage to Zooey Deschanel.

B. Dropping science facts in his lyrics

Capillaries breaking and releasing blood to form bruises:
Tiny Vessels (Transatlanticism)
I wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking
As we moved together in the dark
And all the friends that I was telling
And all the playful misspellings
And every bite I gave you left a mark
And tiny vessels oozed into your neck
And formed the bruises
That you said you didn’t want to fade
But they did and so did I that day…

How vision works:
A Lack of Color (Transatlanticism)
And when I see you
I always see you upside down
But my brain knows better
It picks you up and turns you around

How light and color work:
A Lack of Color (Transatlanticism)

If you feel discouraged that there’s a lack of color here
Please don’t worry lover, it’s really bursting at the seams
From absorbing everything, the spectrums A to Z

How light travels large distances / scale of universe:
Everything’s a ceiling (Kintsugi)
The only stars I see in the sky
They don’t move me
Cause they’ve all been dead for millions of years
They’re just light diffusing

How distance works along a sphere:
Everything’s a ceiling (Kintsugi)
And I’ve got nowhere to go
Except further below, so I keep digging
And it gets darker every day
But I see no other way than just committing
And if the earth is as round as they say
Then I won’t find another place
From where I break back through
It’s farther away from you
